Local 4900 Position on DTV

With the announcement of DTV moving in our direction we want our members to be clear on CWA Local 4900’s position. Below you will find a series of relevant data requests sent to labor. We feel this will capture our position on this subject matter. We will keep our members informed of all that transpires with updated news.

Subject: Request to Bargain Importance: High

The purpose of this email is twofold. First the union is demanding that the implementation of new Direct TV work to the premises title be stopped immediately until the union and company can bargain to terms over such inclusion of this new work. The union believes that as this is new work, terms of agreement on its addition to the premises technician title are subject to article 1.01 of the CBA and the “act”. Secondly the union is hereby requesting the following;

  • all methods and practices relevant to the transition of this new work to the premises technician title.
  • all documentation relevant to the business plan, I.E. where and when current premises technicians will install the product currently known as “direct TV”
  • all training timelines and plans for new and existing premises technicians who will be performing this aforementioned work.

The union is demanding this data be provided prior to bargaining over this topic and no later than 1 week from this request. Further, you may contact me via cell or email to establish a time and location to bargain over this matter.

I would like to make an additional request for data to be included with the prior request below.

A list or manifest of the “Direct TV” materials delivered to both 55th place and East Washington street facilities within the last 30 days. I also would like the same information for the facility located at Genoa in Plymouth, MI. Should you not be able to provide me with the MI info then let me know so that I may have the district CWA office request that specific data. I also understand a week may be too short of a time frame for my request so I would ask that you let me know how much additional time it might take to fulfill my request for data. I am also still maintaining the request to “effects bargain” the addition of this work to the premises technician’s.

Training at bargained for facility resulted in this request:

Once again I am adding to this request based on the company’s actions. The union is requesting the employer name of the technicians performing direct tv work today at the 55th place facility.

Attached is a document related to my previous request. I would like to add my request for a clean copy of this document. Also I stand by my previous request to bargain this unilateral change and addition of work. I expect to receive a response form the company either accepting or denying the local unions right to bargain as requested. (this is the training overview document company has put out)
